In 1994, our cousin, Lara, interviewed our grandfather for a school project. He took his time, telling her all his stories, including the one about how he met our grandmother. Luckily, she’s held on to that tape recording all these years, allowing us to listen to our Daddy Ben tell one of our favorite stories in his own words, and to go on sharing it with others. Fireworks is a lightly edited transcript from Lara’s interview. It’s a story about the kind of fireworks we ought to believe in no matter what, the kind that lights up the dark.
